Week 2: Commented Fics

Maybe this could be considered a "recs" kinda thing? Anyway.

I was grumpy and thoroughly procrastinaty on Monday. I keep picture a jackass with all four feet planted and a tractor or something tugging on the rope. So, I got to two on Tuesday.

Monday, April 16
Bad Muffie, bad. Read fic, no comments.

Tuesday, April 17
From SG-1: Biblio's flyboy_fanfic. Jack writes fanfic while Daniel does work. Like the rest of us, Jack knows that Jim and Blair are so doing it.

Wednesday, April 18
From GW: the incomparable Maladorer's Freeport. Duo. Wufei. Sci-fi drama-thriller. There isn't much fic that actually transcends fandom. This is one that does. A sci-fi fan would lurve this bad boy without knowing a danged thing about GW. Ah, Mal, you genius.

Thursday, April 19
Read no fanfic today. *sigh*

Friday, April 20
No fic today, but I did read a lot of the Covent-Garden Journals. Alas, Fielding would not be interested in my commentary, even if he were still alive.

Saturday, April 21
Read some fic, did not comment. I think "read" is too strong of a word. Skimmed works better. Stood in the bathroom with an icepack for my head and shook my finger at my reflection. Bad Muffie, no biscuit!

Sunday, April 22
I finished off Maladorer's Freeport. Hot damn that woman can write.

And, from SG-1, Paian's Not Us, a clone!Jack and clone!Daniel tale that's very natural, sort of an "of course that would happen". No Loki being a stinker. Lots of sex, tho'.

Week 1: Fics I've Commented On

Monday, April 9:
From Numb3rs, the first four parts of Samantha_kathy's Attraction Equation. I commented on the last part. Pre-slash with Ian and Charlie.

Tuesday, April 10:
I read lots of non-fanfic and burned myself out of time in the day. I commented on the non-fanfic. A lot. So I'm giving myself a break on this one.

Wednesday, April 11:
From Stargate Atlantis, the first part of Tarlan's The Sorcerer King titled, conveniently, The Sorcerer King. Knight in Shiny Armor AU with a solid McShep pre-slash.

Thursday, April 12:
From Stargate, cy_chase and katcameback's Abicierum. Rodney is pregnant. Self-pollination is an option for baby-daddy.

Friday, April 13:
From Buffy, whichclothes' Kansasverse. Post-series, Riley and Xander meet up in Wichita, Kansas.

Saturday, April 14:
From Buffy the Vampire Slayer, daughtershade's If I Knew Then.... Leading up to Spander. Spike doesn't get his soul back from the demon trials. He gets to go back and relive season four.

This one got in, too. From SGA, lallybroch's M(eredith + 1) Theory. Alternate reality Rodney is a girl and alternate reality John knocked her up. Very fun. (And even tho' I gave myself a break for Tuesday, this can count for Tuesday.)

Sunday, April 15:
Buffy. The incomprable Devo79's Inner Child. Xander is turned into a 4 year old and Angel takes him in.

In one of my jobs, I get to tell people that they suck. Of course, it's the tried and true "constructive criticism" thing. First, you tell them a few things they did well, and then you get to tell them all the ways in which they suck. In detail. With examples. Phrased nicely and helpfully of course, but it's still a list of ways in which they suck, complete with detailed examination of why they suck and how they can fix said suckage. And they like it. And I get paid to do it. And the better I am at telling people how much they suck, the more people think I'm really good at what I do. This adjunct teaching thing is totally made of win.
I have decided to begin a Program of Review. I read so much fic and almost never comment on it and that sux. So, Da Roolz:

1) I will comment on at least one fic a day (unless I read no fic that day, then I will comment on two fics the next day) or, if the fic is really long, whatever portion of the fic that I've read that day.

2) I will keep myself honest (and make sure I don't double-comment) by posting a weekly Commented This Week post on LJ. No comments, but linx to the story commented on.

3) I will exempt myself if I read pro-fic instead of fanfic.

4) I will comment in this manner: I will explain that I liked the fic, I will mention what parts of the writing craft that I particularly liked, and I may or may not comment on the storyline itself depending on my mood to squee. I will only comment in a constructively negative fashion if, and only if, the writer requests such specifically in their notes. I will not comment if I cannot say something positive.

5) If I do not fulfill the comment program, I will go to the bathroom, face the mirror, and shake my finger at myself and say, "Bad Muffie! Bad! No biscuit!" If that is not strong enough operant conditioning, I will make myself read Sailor Moon fic. Het Sailor Moon fic. The horror! Oh, the horror!

So there.

Mar. 28th, 2012

I have made a horrible discovery: checking my friends page every 20 minutes does not make new fic appear any faster.

I'm crushed.

3 minutes after this post, Edited to Add: Though, apparently heartfelt whining makes new fic appear. Who knew?

Fic: Just So You Can Fly Pt. 2

Title: Just So You Can Fly
Fandom: Stargate Atlantis
Rating: Mature
Pairing: Rodney McKay/John Sheppard
Warning: Angst, nakedness, bondage. (This is not a how-to manual. Do not try this at home.)
Prompts: tictactales Robe, Loyalty, Rope Bondage
Summary: The only thing that ever settled John's insides was pulling Gs. When Todd the Wraith gave him years back, probably made of parts of Genii, all of John's insides squirmed to get out. Rodney thinks he has a solution.

So, my paid account renewal date at LJ draws nigh. I've always wanted to say that. I've decided that I'm gonna hang my expensive hat at LJ for another year. This decision is based solely on the business a few of my fave fan communities do on LJ and on DW. Anyway, I'll do the whole export my journal to DW and keep it up kind of a thing, but since DW is pretty much a back up copy of LJ in fandom circles at the mo', LJ it will be. I do reserve the right to ditch LJ if they do something stupid, like decide to try to be another social media hub like Facebook. That's just completely stupid. They're the original social media hub. Myspace totally ripped LJ off and Facebook totally ripped Myspace off. So there. Will, of course, revisit the quandry next year, when LJ wants another 25 bucks.

*sigh*
